Bruno Grassi

Bruno Grassi, MD PhD, is Professor of Physiology at the School of Medicine, University of Udine. He is the Director of the School of Specialization in Sports Medicine, and Coordinator of the Undergraduate School of Sport Science, University of Udine. He has worked in the past for the National Research Council of Italy, the University of Milano (Italy), the University of Geneva (Switzerland), the University of California San Diego (USA). His research projects include the study of the physiological adjustments and adaptations to microgravity and immobilization–disuse (bed rest), hypoxia/ high altitude, and exercise/exercise training in healthy subjects, heart transplant recipients, in patients with congestive heart failure, metabolic myopathies, obesity, in elderly subjects.

His research topics are mainly focused on the limiting factors, regulation and functional evaluation of skeletal muscle oxidative metabolism, factors limiting exercise tolerance, and muscle bioenergetics. Prof. Grassi has been principal investigator of research projects funded by NATO, European Union, Telethon Italy, Italian Space Agency, Interreg Projects Italy - Slovenia. He has 97 publications on peer-reviewed international scientific journals, 20 chapters in books, 50 invited lectures, 138 communications to congresses; H-index: 31.
